What Is a Liquidation Heatmap?

A liquidation heatmap visualizes where forced liquidations of leveraged crypto positions are happening. When the price of Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency moves sharply against traders, exchanges forcibly close their long or short positions — this is called a liquidation. Our heatmap aggregates these liquidation orders in real time across major derivatives exchanges and maps their intensity by coin and by exchange, so you can instantly see which markets are under the most pressure.

Bright cells mark heavy liquidation zones. A wave of long liquidations usually accompanies a fast price drop, while clustered short liquidations often fuel a squeeze upward. Traders use the liquidation heatmap to spot cascading risk, gauge market sentiment and anticipate volatility around dense liquidation clusters.

What is a crypto liquidation?

A liquidation happens when a leveraged position no longer meets its margin requirement and the exchange closes it by force. Long positions get liquidated when the price falls; short positions get liquidated when the price rises.

What does this heatmap show?

The matrix shows 24-hour liquidation value for each coin on each derivatives exchange — the brighter the cell, the more positions were wiped out. The dashboard also tracks totals, long/short ratio, per-coin rankings, per-exchange breakdown and the latest large liquidation orders.

Where does the data come from?

Liquidation orders are aggregated in real time from major crypto derivatives exchanges, including Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, Gate and Hyperliquid, and refreshed continuously.
